Spring news to cluck and crow about
Big changes in the coop
Alice, Cookie, Queenie, and Adelaide will tell you that the big news around here is that they have a new, automatic coop door. Alice has been the most vocal about it, especially when Brendan installed it for me. She ran back and forth shouting “There’s a MAN in the coop! There’s a MAN in the coop!” Then for a day or two, “I don’t WANT to go out the new red door. I don’t TRUST the new red door!”
She seems to have accepted the new situation, and I get an extra half hour of sleep knowing that they can get out of the coop on their own and terrorize the neighborhood a bit less. Many thanks to my friend Eli for recommending the door. (Jury’s out on the new chicken swing…stay tuned.)
I’m happy about the coop door and absolutely thrilled to share news about my new novel.
Crow Talk tells the story of three lonely people whose lives converge at a remote alpine lake in the woods of Washington State. Frankie O’Neill, a promising young ornithologist, is reeling from her mentor’s betrayal and retreats to her family’s caretaking cottage. She meets Anne Ryan, an Irish musician who’s struggling to raise her son far from home and family. Five-year-old Aiden has retreated into silence for reasons only he understands. Their fates intersect following a chance encounter with an injured baby crow. And one late fall day, a devastating storm brings them all face to face with choices they never expected. Crow Talk is a story of love, loss, and the healing power of the natural world.
Crow Talk will be published by Dutton in the spring of 2024.
If you’re looking for a sneak peek, I’m told that the first chapter of Crow Talk will be included at the end of The Music of Bees in the next printing…
